Alterations of melanin (dark pigments that give the skin its color) pigmentation such as vitiligo and melasma are not related to acne, but they may be present simultaneously with acne. The diagnosis and treatment of melanin pigmentation disorders such as vitiligo requires a dermatologist with knowledge and experience in treating these conditions. Doctors feel that laser resurfacing isn't meant for dark skin because it alters the color of skin too dramatically and unpredictably so it really is not an option to treat your skin in this way. Cleansing, acne and your hair
Shampooing is very important in acne therapy. The oilier your hair is, the more often you should shampoo it. Also, it is best to keep hair off the face as much as possible to avoid hair oils also mingling with facial oils and aggravating your skin causing further brake outs do you? Sometimes this measure alone can be enough to improve acne to a very high degree-so try it. If you have a fringe, wearing an Alice band whilst at home and keeping it away from your face can be helpful also. Acne treatment for black skin is the same as that for white skin, with a few notable exceptions. Some treatments for acne scars may cause lightening of dark skin. Very dark or black skin may be less well-moisturized than lighter skin, so topical solutions like benzoyl peroxide that have a drying effect on the skin should be used under the supervision of a dermatologist. Darker skin has a tendency to develop excessive skin darkening at places where the skin was inflamed. Severe inflammatory acne (cysts and nodules) may result in dark uneven pigment spots. The spots disappear over time; a dermatologist may be able to recommend cosmetic measures to make the spots less apparent until they resolve. Some acne treatments, such as topical retinoids and azelaic acid, may also help fade the discoloration. Technorati Tags: Acne on black skinPosted by Admin at 2008-06-04 16:49, Post Link

Exercise aggravates acne?
Exercise Too much exercise is also supposed to increase teen acne as it can raise the hormone levels. At first glance, it seems logical - the disease is connected to oily skin and you sweat a lot during physical exercises. But this is a myth there is no connection between doing exercises and teen acne. It won't get better if you stop physical activity. In fact physical activity can increase your circulation and improve acne as it moves the toxins around and faster out of your system. I know initially spots are hormonal but only the dirty people really suffer...
Wrong! The more a person scrubs their face the more likely they are the get more spots since any skin irritation can cause a flair-up. Admittedly, some people are lucky enough not to get acne but there is certainly not a connection between these people and cleanliness. Skinny people don't get spots... Wrong! Well, half wrong. Some really skinny people do avoid spots because by dangerously dieting and/or over-exercising they have actually stopped the normal teenage hormones effecting their body because their body cannot produce these hormones without more nutrience. However, this level of body-abuse cannot be kept up for long and either the person has to start eating normally and therefore their hormones and potential spots will kick in or the person may become so malnutritioned they will need specialist help. On the flip side, people who over-eat may have underlying hormonal imbalances that whilst causing over-eating or rapid weight gain may also cause spots. Therefore, although weight does not determine the amount of spots a person has- the hormones that are controlling or effected by weight can effect spots. Acne - never squeeze white heads
Squeezing or picking whiteheads (closed comedones) or microcomedones is potentially even harmful. The microcomedo (a "sandpaper comedo"-almost too small to be seen but may be felt as roughness on the skin), and the whitehead (closed comedo) are more likely than blackheads to become sites of inflamed lesions. Depending on the site and extent of inflammation, the microcomedo and closed comedo may eventually evolve into a pustule or a papule. Any attempt to manipulate these acne lesions by squeezing or picking can aggravate the inflammatory process. Leading to scarring that is permanent. So don't do it. Where it all begins: Acne
Being a teenager can be a really traumatic time. With exams, parents, peer pressure and stress it is no surprise that life can feel like its getting on top of you. To top this off, most teens at some point develop nasty, painful spots on their face and body. Just to clarify some popular schools of research on spots: Spots are: awkward, nasty, painful, red, full of puss, tiny n black, embarrassing, stressful, upsetting, unfair, difficult to hide, difficult to manage, effected by hormones and above all... utterly horrible for the person suffering them. Besides this there is very little scientific knowledge about spots that is not contested. Some say that you can treat and cure acne by doing the 'medical route'. This involves antibiotics en masse; topically applied chemicals such as retina, benoxyl peroxide etc and if you're a girl- you will normally be shoved on the contraceptive 'pill'. Alternatively you could go on the 'alternative route'. This can involve a diverse range of pills, potions, rubs and scrubs, typically rose water, tea tree oil and herbal tea. Then there is the 'diet route', again this is very diverse. From high carb, no fat to raw fish and fruit only to red vegtables and salad. Common foods you will be advised to avoid are: chocolate, cheese, bread, greasy food and sugar. So far, there has been no documented consistently good 'cure'/ solution to / explanation for acne.
